Week 7 of Pregnancy – Your Baby Is the Size of a Blueberry

Congratulations you’ve made it to Week 7 of pregnancy! By now, your baby is about the size of a blueberry (around ½ inch long) and is growing at a remarkable pace. In just a week, they’ve nearly doubled in size, and their tiny body is taking on more recognizable human features.

At 4 Baby Ultrasound, we know these early weeks can be filled with both excitement and questions. Let’s walk through everything you need to know about Week 7 from your baby’s development, your body’s changes, what you might see in an ultrasound, and how to take care of yourself during this important stage.

Baby’s Development at Week 7

Even though your little one is still very small, Week 7 brings rapid and exciting growth:

Forming Face & Features

  • The beginnings of a nose, mouth, and ears are starting to develop.
  • Dark spots mark where the eyes will eventually form, and eyelid folds are beginning.

Arms & Legs

  • Limb buds are elongating, and tiny hands and feet are emerging, looking like little paddles.
  • Joints such as elbows and knees are starting to form.

Internal Organs

  • The heart, which began beating last week, is now beating strongly at around 150–170 beats per minute about twice as fast as yours!
  • The brain is developing rapidly, producing over 100 brain cells every minute.
  • Lungs, intestines, and other organs are beginning to shape more clearly.

Umbilical Cord

  • The umbilical cord is now fully developed and is delivering nutrients and oxygen to your growing baby.

At Week 7, your baby is starting to look less like a cluster of cells and more like the tiny person you’ll soon meet.

Mom’s Experience in Week 7

By this week, pregnancy symptoms may be more noticeable. Some women feel stronger changes, while others experience only mild signs. Here’s what you might notice:

  • Morning Sickness

Nausea (sometimes all day long) can peak around this time due to rising hCG hormone levels. Eating small, frequent meals may help.

  • Breast Changes

Breasts may feel sore, swollen, or heavier as milk ducts continue to grow.

  • Food Cravings & Aversions

It’s common to crave unusual foods or suddenly dislike things you used to enjoy.

  • Mood Swings

Hormonal changes, combined with excitement or fatigue, may cause emotional ups and downs.
  • Bloating & Digestion

Progesterone slows digestion, which can lead to gas and bloating.

  • Fatigue

Your body is working hard to support baby’s growth, so feeling tired is very normal.

Every pregnancy is different some women feel strong symptoms, while others feel almost none at all. Both can be completely normal.

Ultrasound at Week 7

Many parents schedule an early ultrasound around Week 7. It can be an incredibly emotional experience. Here’s what you may see:

  • Gestational Sac & Yolk Sac

     – Both may still be visible, providing support and nourishment to your baby.

  • Embryo

     – Baby may measure around 7–10 mm long small but clearly visible.

  • Heartbeat

     – A strong flicker is usually seen on screen, often one of the most memorable moments of early pregnancy.

  • Multiple Pregnancies

     – If you’re carrying twins or multiples, they may be detected at this stage.

At 4 Baby Ultrasound, we use high-quality imaging to help you witness this milestone. Seeing that tiny heartbeat can bring reassurance and joy, especially during the early weeks when symptoms can feel overwhelming.

Health & Wellness Tips at Week 7

Your health is the foundation of your baby’s development. Here are tips to stay well during Week 7:
