Week 11 of Pregnancy – Your Baby Is the Size of a Fig

Congratulations you’ve made it to Week 11 of pregnancy! At this stage, your baby is now about the size of a fig (approximately 1.6–2 inches long and weighing around 0.25 ounces). Your little one is growing quickly, and with each passing week, they begin to look more like the baby you’ll soon meet.

Here at 4 Baby Ultrasound, we love guiding expectant parents through every milestone of pregnancy. Week 11 is an exciting stage where your baby’s features become more defined, and many moms begin feeling a little more comfortable as the second trimester approaches.

Baby’s Development at Week 11

Even though your baby is still tiny, their development is advancing at an incredible pace:
Head & Face
  • The head still accounts for about half of the baby’s size but is becoming more proportional.
  • Ears are nearly in their final position on the sides of the head.
  • The eyelids remain fused shut but are fully formed.
  • The nose is more defined, and tiny nostrils are visible.
    Arms & Legs
  • Hands and feet are no longer webbed; tiny fingers and toes are now distinct.
  • Bones are starting to harden, particularly in the arms and legs.
  • Baby may already be stretching, kicking, and even hiccupping!
  • Organs & Systems
  • The diaphragm is developing, helping prepare for breathing.
  • The stomach and intestines continue to grow into their proper positions.
  • The kidneys are functioning and beginning to produce urine.
  • The liver is producing red blood cells.
    Movement
  • Your baby is very active inside the womb, though you won’t feel the movements just yet.
  • On ultrasound, you may see little stretches, wiggles, or even thumb-sucking!
By Week 11, your baby is looking more human-like every day, with recognizable arms, legs, and facial features.

Mom’s Experience at Week 11

As your baby grows, your body continues to adapt. While every pregnancy is different, here’s what you may notice in Week 11:

  • Morning Sickness – Nausea may still be present, though many moms begin noticing relief as they approach the second trimester.

  • Fatigue – Your body is still working hard, but energy levels may start improving soon.

  • Bloating & Gas – Hormonal changes may still cause digestive discomfort.

  • Increased Urination – The growing uterus is pressing against the bladder.

  • Breast Changes – Breasts may continue to feel heavy or tender.

  • Skin & Hair – Some moms notice a radiant glow, while others may experience acne or changes in hair texture.

Emotionally, you may be feeling more connected to your baby and excited about sharing the news with friends and family if you haven’t already.

Ultrasound at Week 11

Week 11 ultrasound can be one of the most magical experiences so far.

  • Baby’s Shape – Your baby now looks much more like a miniature newborn, with arms, legs, and a more defined head.

  • Heartbeat – The baby’s heart beats rapidly around 160–170 beats per minute.

  • Movement – You may see your baby wiggle, stretch, or wave their arms.

  • Measurements – Crown-to-rump length provides a good estimate of gestational age and helps confirm your due date.

At 4 Baby Ultrasound, we provide high-quality images so you can clearly see your baby’s development and capture keepsake memories at this special milestone.

Health & Wellness Tips for Week 11

  1. Taking care of yourself continues to be the best way to support your growing baby. Here are some helpful reminders:

    1. Stay Hydrated
Drink at least 8–10 glasses of water per day. Hydration helps with circulation and amniotic fluid levels.

    2. Eat a Balanced Diet

      • Choose a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

      • Focus on foods rich in iron and calcium.

      • Avoid high-mercury fish, undercooked meats, and unpasteurized dairy.

    3. Manage Nausea

      • Eat small, frequent meals.

      • Keep crackers or light snacks nearby.

      • Ginger tea or lemon water may ease nausea.

    4. Safe Exercise
Moderate activity like walking, swimming, or prenatal yoga can help reduce stress, improve circulation, and boost energy.

    5. Rest & Stress Management
Your body is still adjusting, so allow yourself naps and downtime when needed. Relaxation techniques such as meditation or prenatal stretching may help.

Prenatal Care in Week 11

By Week 11, you’re likely keeping up with your prenatal appointments. During this stage, your provider may:

  • Review your medical history and discuss upcoming screening tests.

  • Perform blood and urine tests to monitor health.

  • Offer first-trimester screening tests (Weeks 11–13), such as:
  • Nuchal translucency (NT) ultrasound to check fluid at the back of the baby’s neck.
  • Blood tests that evaluate genetic conditions.

This is also a great time to ask your provider any questions about nutrition, lifestyle, and planning for the second trimester.

Emotional Connection at Week 11

As your baby grows and becomes more recognizable on ultrasound, it’s natural to feel more bonded. Here are some simple ways to strengthen that connection:

  • Talk or Sing – Your baby can’t hear you yet, but creating this habit builds closeness.

  • Keep a Pregnancy Journal – Record milestones, cravings, and emotions.

  • Share Ultrasound Images – Show loved ones how much your fig-sized baby has grown.

These small steps help make the pregnancy journey more joyful and memorable.
